Old Mike

I must introduce one and all to this really sporting gent who lives somewhere on the island. He is to be seen frequently at the Singapore Online Expat Forums, which by the way are a great place to visit if you are not actually an expat.You can obtain rather tainted information of all kinds in these,ranging from opinions on whether rental prices will go up or down, where you can find exotic chinese ingredients like maltose (used to prepare roasted peking duck etc),where to find indian food home- delivered, about how to locate filipino maids that will not get pregnant by bangladeshi construction workers, and how much salary is enough in Singapore. The last one cracks me up because there is unbelievable divergence of opinion. In these forums, there are many regular members, most of whom do no more than flame, or rather post inflammatory messages to get some action going.. they may start in a civil manner for the first few posts, but sooner or later their opinion is questioned or challenged and then all hell breaks loose, and there is a fist fight on the forum. Only one man stands out. His name is Old Mike-The Aged Ang Mo (like Thundarr-The Barbarian). No one really knows who he is or where he lives, but his posts are most immaculate. They reek of wisdom, accuracy,timeliness and above all, an earnestness that is missing completely these days. Furthermore, he is devoid of judgement, and when instigated, reacts only by means of the most polite yet soul-crushing repartee. He is beleived to be an old white guy, but I would not be surprised if he is actually a ghost, or from another planet(like Chicago or Kansas City). He has many fans, but I may well be the only air conditioner he has.
